14TH JULY - WHALES/PUFFINS TOUR
WHAT WE DID:
We went to the seaport and went on a whales/puffin tour, which lasted 3 hours. Afterwards we looked around Reykjavik, looked closely at Hallgrimskirkaja church, and then organized the remaining days of our holiday.
COMMENT:
We walked to the seaport to get on the 9 am whales/puffin tour. We first went out in the bay looking for whales, often we'd try and find them by going to spots full of birds, indicating food. First we saw a few dolphins, we then saw a few minke whales but they never came out very close to the boat. We saw many birds on the way there, mostly seagulls and puffins. When we were going towards a puffin, it either flew away rather clumsily or it went underwater, as they are excellent divers. On the way back we stopped at puffin island, without getting too close in order not to disturb too much. There is a large puffin colony on this island, and a lot of other birds, too.
The most interesting part of going around Reykjavik was probably Hallgrimskirkaja church, with its rather original shape.
